Construction Project Engineer

The Role

Our client is a specialist engineering and project delivery organisation operating within highly regulated industries across the UK. With extensive experience supporting complex infrastructure programmes, they provide a wide range of services including engineering design, project management, construction delivery, refurbishment, installation, commissioning, and decommissioning activities. Their work spans the full project lifecycle, delivering innovative solutions while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, environmental compliance, and operational excellence.

They are seeking an experienced Construction Project Engineer to support the successful delivery of projects within a highly regulated environment. Working as part of a multidisciplinary construction team, you will play a key role in bridging the gap between engineering design and on-site execution, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality, environmental, security, and contractual requirements.

This is a site-based role requiring a proactive, organised, and solutions-focused individual with proven construction delivery experience. You will be responsible for supporting construction operations, coordinating technical activities, and ensuring effective collaboration between engineering, project management, construction, and supply chain teams.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery

  • Undertake technical studies and develop practical solutions to achieve project objectives.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation including:
    • Method Statements
    • Risk Assessments
    • Control Plans
    • Lifetime Quality Records (LTQRs)
  • Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to identify plant, equipment, and services required for project delivery.
  • Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure goods and services are procured in accordance with company procedures.
  • Support the preparation, management, and control of construction documentation.
  • Raise and close Technical Queries (TQs) in collaboration with engineering and project teams.
  • Support the coordination and management of site personnel, operatives, and technicians.
  • Ensure effective communication between disciplines to support successful project execution.
  • Assist construction leadership teams with programme management, cost reporting, risk identification, stakeholder engagement, and subcontractor management.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop technical competency through continuing professional development.
  • Understand project technical requirements and work with engineering specialists to develop suitable solutions.
  • Coordinate and collate engineering and design documentation for internal approvals and client submissions.
  • Support construction strategy development throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate work activities through site work control processes and permit systems.
  • Assist with quality assurance and quality control activities in accordance with project requirements.
  • Support procurement activities and ensure materials align with engineering specifications and drawings.
  • Coordinate Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), including hold points and witness requirements.
  • Support project completion and handover activities, ensuring quality records are maintained and completed.
  • Promote compliance with construction management and health and safety regulations throughout project delivery.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven construction site experience within a mechanical, electrical, civil, or related engineering discipline.
  • Strong understanding of construction delivery within highly regulated industries.
  • Experience producing and managing construction documentation, including method statements and risk assessments.
  • Understanding of construction management principles and CDM Regulations.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, and site teams.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office applications.

Qualifications

  • Relevant Level 3 qualification in an engineering or construction discipline (essential).
  • SMSTS or SSSTS qualification (essential).
  • Relevant engineering or design qualification (essential).
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in a technical discipline (desirable).
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution (desirable).

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working within the nuclear, or defence sectors.
  • Understanding of radiological controls and associated site requirements.
  • Experience with quality control processes and inspection activities.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Understanding of project lifecycle management and construction delivery methodologies.
